"Fields" in a progressive frame standard

I had an interesting thought today. When you're working on a Kalypso you specify time intervals in fields and frames. However, with the new digital standards coming out like 480p and 720p there aren't any actual fields anymore. Now in practice the Kalypso simply treats every other progressive frame as a "field" so that people can still think in terms of 30 frames a second, but it's got me thinking about all the other legacies of NTSC we're going to have to rethink in the future.
I know that some things like concerts shot in HD are shot at 24 frames a second for "that film look," how does this affect things that we're used to dealing with at 30 frames a second like timecode and switcher timelines?
