Just wanted to see what everyone's up to for the fall. Anyone (besides Jonas :-) working on a cool package?

I'm on an ABC CFB package - 9 games plus one of the Jan 2 or 3 Bowls. We kick off next week at Clemson (Texas A&M @ Clemson), from there who knows where we might go...

What's everyone got going on?

John

Hello everyone .... I'm finishing up baseball which I have been involved with for many years with FOX. During an off week (next week) I'm headed over the London for a show there. I will be returning to do some NFL this year and I do have some College Football I'll be doing for ABC. My schedule is pretty good as I have been able to balance all these events plus upcoming NBA and NHL here at home. Hope you all have a nice fall season.
Is anyone here at Minnesota on Sunday 9/11? I'm doing the ESPN2 college game on Saturday at the HHH Metrodome, and just found out there's an NFL game on Sunday, so a crew will be setting up around us. Anyone here in our community that I should make sure to say "hi" to? :-)
I might be doing utility for that college game on Sat. "Might" being the operative word, the crewer said "pencil yourself in tentatively." If I get the gig, see you there, if not, maybe exchange cell#s and meet you outside? EDIT: Just found out I will be doing the Gopher game, setup day and game day. Heck yeah, my first gig for ESPN, albeit as a utility.

Hi Everyone! My first year for NFL - too say I am excited would be an understatement! I am working about 8 games for Fox. I believe I am working all the Game 7's. My first one was supposed to be Charlotte this weekend but was changed today to the San Fran show. Charlotte is hosting New Orleans and the show turned into a big one. My thoughts and prayers to all those affected! I am told this weekend is an HD show -Kalypso, DVEous and a spotbox. We get two days set up on the first game of the season - very nice! I'll write more after the show.

Actually, Steve Meyer - I'm jealous of your shows! Not only do you get a really nice truck, you get to be home on Saturday nights! Last weekend we were on NMT's A-16 for ABC CFB. To say that I was "surprised" would be an understatement. My Engineers, Don and Randy, were great but I was more than a little amazed that I was doing a primetime ABC show on an analogue truck ... with a 3k. We pulled it off, though. That little 3k was maxed out and smokin' (literally), but we pulled it off. I got really nervous on Thursday when the 3k's power supply failed and the engineers had a local electrical crew working on the Clemson Stadium build them new power cables and connectors. That was fun times, let me tell ya. When there are switcher issues on the road, the very last thing I really want to hear is: "well, if this doesn't work we'll run to Home Depot ..." YIKES! The word is that once we get deeper into the season we'll get a digital truck that will be ours for the duration. We'll see. John

If anyone's in Minneapolis, I'd appreciate meeting up with them as well, though I probably can't get you into anything since I'm just a studio guy at the moment.

John: I'll be in SF Sept. 3 - 10th. I think we're working at Harding Park. SF is a pretty big show for us- we cover all 18 with 30+ cameras if you want to come check out our setup- although I might be in a coma because the week prior we have a sub truck in greensboro, NC where I have to fit 7 key sources, more cameras than crosspoints, and 13 tape machines into a 3K switcher. Steve: I can usually get passes if you're interested. Sherwood country club is pretty cool- our compound is right below the small mountain that is in the opening titles of MASH.
are you sure you remember your address??? ; )
yeah, I had no problem finding my house but I'm staying in a Day's Inn tonight because apparently when your A/C fails sometime during the 3 1/2 months away from home, the humidty in Charleston causes mold to take over your house and completely ruins furniture, clothes, mattresses, carpet. Almost everything in my "house" (I rent out my house and live in a detached apartment behind my house) has mold on it. It's hard to even walk in there. Welcome home :-)

As long as we're sharing tech specs and packages we're on, how about including your producer/director team that you're working with? I'm sure many of us have worked with the same production people, and it might be nice to know who is working with whom. I'm on the ESPN2 noon Eastern time game. SD show. Same truck every week - Corplex Sterling. Kalypso, Dveous, Fast Forward, and a Lance for me - plus a great router and truck infrastructure, and a top-noch EIC, maintenance engineer, and driver. 1st and 10 (SportVision) on site, as opposed to last year's method of PVI back in Bristol. Games every week though Thanksgiving weekend, then a few baby bowls / classics / division 1AA or III championships. Nothing with huge visibility like NFL post-season or BCS games, but slightly under the radar (so not as much executive interference), a little more freedom for me during prepro and effects creation, and an all-around nice package nonetheless. Eric Poseman producing, Tim Sutton directing. Not as big of a show every week as some of the larger network packages (cough...John Howard...cough...Jonas) but I get to travel home every Saturday night after the game :-) Since we're on the subject of football and tech specs, I TDd the Sugar Bowl last year. HD. Trio Tango. Kalypso, HDveous, Fast Forward upconverted, more cameras than I remember, a bunch of tape machines, two EVSs, one Duet, and an inbound remote. Racked up something like 70 hours of work in 4 days. It was a blast...at least, what I can remember of it. Mike Tiffee: I live in Sherman Oaks, which, coincidentally, is between Thousand Oaks and Pasadena, right off the 101 freeway. Drop me a line if you have a day between assignments.

Hey Mike, If you (or anyone, for that matter) are in the SF bay area, let me know, perhaps we could have a drink.

John, did you quit your job at WIS? No football for me either- first year with no FB since I started freelancing. I'm in the Atlanta airport waiting for my flight to take me home. I left home in May and haven't been back since. My trip started with the French Open in Paris, took me through 4 weeks of golf back in the states, then The Open Championship in St. Andrews, Scotland. Then back in the states for more golf, X-games, more golf and now finally going home. In a few weeks I'll be back on the road for the rest of the year. Some of the places: Greensboro, San Fran, Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, then Faro Portugal, ending up the ABC golf year in Thousand Oaks, CA. From there maybe the Rose Parade, some ABC bowl host shows, then golf picks back up in Jan. My golf show uses NEP SS10 and 3 other tape/graphic/ISO/RF trucks. Mike Tiffee

No college or pro football package for me either. Just some time off, some local college football and the beginning of NHL and then NBA.

Man, that sort of thing would be my dream job. It's like going on tour with a rock band. =D But no, I'm stuck in a studio somewhere. Just gotta keep getting my name out, I guess.
