I need to setup a DVS9000 to trigger via GPI a Deko1000. I have a GPI set up under ENG Setup/ Switcher/Device Interface/GPI output. Currently I have it set to execute on P/P auto trans. The GPI works this way but it doesn't work the way I need it to. Does anybody know how to set up GPI's on a timeline so I can set the GPI to fire during a sequence.

Thanks

Okay I use SCU but the idea is the same Go to 7325, GPI output and set a pulse with NO ACTION on your port. Now Press the DEV button or goto page 5311 (GPI Timeline) On your port select OFF, and create a keyframe. Now set it to DCU-X on your port (where X is the port number) and enter a new keyframe Thats it page 131 in the 2nd manual That should work!

Ok, I do have a DCU. Do you know what steps from there that I would need to do to get the GPI to fire in a timeline? Thanks

I think you cannot timeline the chassis GPIs, but only attach them to events like register recalls/runs, certain buttons etc. If you want timeline control, you have to use the SCU or DCU GPI outputs. The SCU ("system control unit") is the box to which the panel is attached. The DCU ("device control unit") is optional. I don't know all that much about the 9000, but I ran into this recently at a place where they hooked up the GPIs without bothering to ask the users, and they hooked them up to the chassis --> no timeline control! Cheers, Chris

The interface is at page 7325, gpi output button. make a timeline from there assigning the neccessary action to your port. you can then adjust KF timing in the timeline as per normal Hope this helped

There is a GPI timeline on the 9000 ( I use it to trigger a Thunder and Deko 3000), check the manual as it's not in the same menu and there are a couple of different ways to do it. (damned if I can remember where) When I get into work today I'll take apart my Brief effect and let you know it's menu. I hate the damned thing myself so I have a basic effect just to remind myself where it is.

I have it physically connected to GPI 4 on the switcher GPI out. I think that is what I am looking for---keyfame in a timeline--I am not a director so I do not know all the correct terms. Thanks for the help.
Fire during a sequence? Do you mean on a keyframe in a timeline? What physical hardware is the GPI hooked up to? Is it the Panel, the switcher chassis or the device control unit? RE
Slightly off the original question, but in the same area. Curious on the 7000 series GPI's on the frame could not be used via a timeline, only the panel. What are the differences if any between the chasis, panel or device control unit GPI's on the 9K/8K's. I would imagine almost any station would have the device control unit, either the smaller or larger version. If chasis and DCU are together any reason to use one or the other. I understand the panel is great if the device you are triggering is in the same room, that makes sense. More options all the better either way.. thanks Bill
