We are planning to update SONY MVS-8000 from v4.20 to v5.21. What are the major changes? Is there any problem encountered with the new version?
Unrelated, they said at NAB to expect V. 6 to have close to 1200 frames of frame memory in the HD world. They also spoke of some options that would be extra cost, similar to Kalypso's Double Take feature for the MVS-8000.
Actually, the Frame Memory capcity in v6 will be 1033 frames PER Frame Memory board installed in the 8000A. So if you have one board you'll get 1033 frames. If you have 2 boards you'll get 2066 frame (or about 68 seconds of animation). RE

After the 5.12 install done by Sony I found functionality impaired on the ENG Setup related to input gain. Having used this feature constantly with videophone cameras it was very noticeable that it had changed. It has not been verified by Sony as a problem. This was my report: "The problem is with VIDEO PROCESS on page 7332.1 there is very poor response on the knobs. This started with the vers. 5.12 install. Video process on page 1137, ect. and 1172, ect (in the Buss) is fine. It is the input stage that has been badly effected." The response is not linear, jumpy, and nearly impossibe to adjust. I have adapted to using the numerical entry to change hue, gain, set-up etc. Working with HD in frame memory the new version has enabled 444 frames in RAM memory, up from 58. Macro editing is made much easier with each keystroke described on the GUI. The 5.12 installation took several hours and after the HDD files were intact and useable. Having just previously experianced a HDD failure, loss of all files, the USB flash Memory Cards were quite valuable. Frame Memories also on HDD were restored from Sony File Manager's outboard hard drive.
