Hey Guys/Gals, We have one Affinity NLE left running as we swap out to another NLE system(s). My problem at this point is; we xferred all of our old tracksheets from one server to a "production only server". Now when I try to recall an old trksht, my MAC reads it as a simple text file and will not open the project. The Dimension program won't even see these files, but I can see them just by opening the server folders. Now we have for years opened these project files from our MACs through our company network (PC Servers), but since the server swap out- no luck. The IS dept has even reloaded backups into this server with no luck. I will try taling this one Affinty system back to the old way just to see if that link is there.
Any suggestions on why we see it asa simple text file? Thanks Scott

Roger

John, Don't be tempted to get rid of the drums, I know people that have sold their gear becasue they no longer have the time and a few years down the line have regretted it because they then have the time but not the money and have to settle for inferior gear. I've kept my old Ricky bass and the stack is in the garage Rog

Scott, Drums. . .yeah I remember playing those! It's been awhile, I moved on April 1st and haven't been able to set them up. Plus just too busy in and out of town. But, someday. . . it's such a great tension reliever. Glad your problems worked out. Atul said you called. Just for future reference for anyone else, Atul told me that if the drives are formatted in Mac Extended, the Affinity (and Sphere) didn't like them. later. . .

Hey John, How is the drumming going??? We tried changing extensions and "opening with" but the Dimension program would never see the file etc. So what I ended up having the IS dept do, was to restore the last good back-up to both the original server and our new dept only server. The MAC still treated the files as PC ones from the NEW server. Then I hooked back up to the corporate network and found the archived tracksheets with no problem. And they were Dimension 8 files as they should be. Something about the translation issues MAC vs. PC on that new server, even though it's rated as a PC & MAC compatible. We have seen this before on the corporate server when trying to find a TGA file. We would save a Deko font as a TGA and the MAC would see it 80% of the time. You either re-record it or go into the server, copy the file to the MAC desktop & replace it back to the server (so archive wise it's there) then it would replace the pc file with a QT/MAC file 1-2-3! ANYWAY, I dumped all the backups from our three systems onto a portable HD so that it is out of the IS dept hands. ALL IS GOOD! Thanks for the input. Scott S.

Hi Scott, I don't really know for sure, but since no one else has answered, I thought I'd just suggest an obvious one. Are the files just opening up in TextEdit and not the Affinity app? If so, then it might be just the association of the files (and extensions, if there are any) to the proper application. You can Get Info on one of the files and should be able to tell the Mac which app to open the file with. Not sure which OS it's on. Also, you might be able to call Abekas Tech Support (650-470-0900) and Atul or someone else might be able to help you. Hope this helps or that you already solved your problem. -JH
