Currently I am at a small station with 2 - 250's and a 300. I am the guru here to figure it all out and make these things do all the wizz bang stuff. Currently the "Boss" Directs and punches the live sports and other boring crap. During production I am the chyron operator. Our truck is outfitted with the 250 2me. Currently we punch on the PGM/PST, use me1 for replays, and me2 for splits and such. My boss is not the best at this though. The replays come in using a DPM-700. On the chyron we use one channel for TE's via GPI, this is what I want to change. it sucks wasting a channel on the chyron. Is there a DDR that can be interfaced with the 250? Do most DDR's offer alpha channel playback? Can the 250 interface with the DPM-700? The engineer has really no clue, since the last switcher he was on was a 1600-7k. I am pulling my hair out on how it is done right. i know this is a lot of question, but I have thousands more. Is there any one here the in near the Hampton Roads market of Virginia? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

I am doing a show tomorrow on a Grass 250 that is supposed to be PBus interfaced to a fast forward. I've done some stuff on a 200 but it didn't have these options installed. Can anyone tell me what steps I would need to go through to build a replay move for this switcher? I have done this on a 4000 before but I don't think I could do it again, so feel free to be as detailed as you can :) Thanks, Ryan

I'm wondering...if you're doing games on a 250 and triggering replay via Chyron, does this shop really have the budget for a Fast Forward and a Lance? Even for a lower cost Doremi V1 server, it's still a lot comparable to the current setup. At this point the Fast Forward would cost nearly three times of what a 250 goes for, and the Lance probably just as much as the 250. I don't mean to burst your bubble, but the solutions offered are pretty high priced compared to what's being done.

If you're going the GPI route, you can control a Fast Forward with a regular DNF controller like the tape/replay guys use. You would have to manually recall all your clips, but you can mark all your points and gang roll through GPI.

I use the chyron for a transition effect (this may be the wrong wording). Say that I go to replay on ME1, the GPI pulse triggers the animation on the chyron and the switcher cuts to the replay. I hope you get what I am saying. Now we are using the DPM-700 to bring in the replays (manually), so I could get back my second channel on the chyron. I was hoping that a DDR would do what the chyron is doing and be able to go from there. No streamline splsh panel on the truck :(. Sorry for the lingo misunderstaing. Andy

Andy...sounds like your work is cut out for you! One question before I get into the response...you said that you are using one channel of Chyron for TE's...what exactly is that? My gut reaction is "Transform Engine", like on the Kalypso or Zodiak, and I know that isn't what you mean... Anyway, the DPM-700 can interface with the GVG-250. On your 250, do you have the "streamline" splash panel? If so, you most likely have P-Bus, which will allow the switcher to recall e-mem registers on the DPM. If you don't have the P-Bus option, you can GPI control the DPM, but that is basically just start/stop kind of stuff, no recalling registers (I think you mentioned that you can GPI). Concerning the DDRs: many DDR solutions offer 2 channels in one box, like the Omega's "FastForward", but you'll also need a Lance controller to control those channels. Again, you could P-Bus the Lance controller so that certain animations would recall with a switcher e-mem. Other options might be a Pinnacle or Leitch still/clip-store...this would allow you to run a clip (with key), but it would be more of a manual operation. Again, I'm sure that you could manually recall a clip, but have the switcher GPI trigger it as another solution. Hope that helps. I don't have all of the answers, but I figured that I would share what I could. Feel free to drop me an e-mail if I can be of further assistance! Best of luck... Matt
