I have a show scheduled on the 4000 in the near future, I have never done anything live on the switcher but have messed around with a 2b quite a bit. I normally work on a kalypso on a daily basis, and have been told that the kaylpso is basically a hopped up version of the 4000, more keyers per M/E, more internal still store and internal TE's. I am not sure what the show is just yet (I am working on those details) but was told it was a fairly simple show (a little bit of fast forward, DVE). My question is... HOW much different is it from the kalypso? Are there any hidden things to look out for?

thanks

greg

Allan, Thanks for the info. I just thought of something wilke reading your post. The 2b that I have access too is tied to an editor. Therfore PBus, Gpi (outs only), Framestore, Cpl are not available. I should probably be able to work those out though. As far as the direction you need to go, 4000 to kalypso, from what I see between the switchers you have alot more options in the kalypso. Macros are great and save alot of button pushes (I am lazy myself) so I take full advantage of them. If you can cut on a 4k then you should have no problem on a kalypso. greg

Greg... I'm having the same problem... but in reverse order. I'm on a 4k every day and I'm just starting to get into the sports thing. I need to figure out the Kalypso... and fast. I've played around with it but I'm far from knowing the thing inside and out. I say if you know a Kalypso, you shouldn't have much of a problem swinging a show on a 4k. There's a lot less going on with the actual user panel than on a Kalypso. The first time I sat down in front of a Kalypso, my first thought was, "Gee... there's a lot more buttons on this thing." First, and probably the biggest issue for me (because I'm a lazy guy) is that you can't rely on macros. I think that would be a gotcha... at least for me. Internal framestore consists of 4 vid/key pages. You only have access to one page at a time so plan accordingly if you need to use it. Oh... and Aux 4a feeds the framestore. Don't worry about remembering it... it's plastered all over the framestore menu. Hopefully they have CPL hooked up to the DVE. If you need to rely on PBus to call DVE effects up, there's a limitation to the 4k software. Anything over Bank 3 (somewhere in the mid 30's actually) and you won't be able to recall any effects in the DVE. The DVE has the same issue. If you save anything over register 60ish (I think it's 62), you won't be able to call it up from the switcher. I doubt this will be a problem for you and it's easy enough to work around. If CPL is in play, you'll be able to call up any DVE register from any E-mem. Button mapping is done from the Config--Inputs--Map Inputs menu. Select the crosspoint in the preset bus you want to map and select the input number accordingly. There are plenty of people floating around here who know a lot more than I do. Those were just some of the things I could think of off the top of my head. -Allan
