Hi All,

I was trained to understand that in the BVW / "24-hour tape" mode of the FF, wherever you jog the disk to is where you record.

Example: I do my element reel dump from 00:00:00:00 to 00:10:00:00, then have a couple more clips to bring in, so I should be safe cueing down to 01:00:00:00 to start the second dump where I won't burn the first dump. Right?

I tried this the other day, and I ended up accidentally burning a few minutes of my first dump. I thought I had jumped to 01:00:00:00 (just a random, distant time code), but the FF started the second recording in the middle of the first dump.

Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?

Thanks,
Chad

AH! Makes good sense. Yes, I was recording via the Lance, A and B devices (FF 1 and 2) ganged and at the same TC. Thanks so much. I'll try this procedure this weekend. Cheers, Chad

Were you recording using the Lance?... I've come across this issue when using the Lance to record in the FF running in BVW mode. If you cue a clip @ 00.01.00.00 and the press 'set' 01.00.00.00 'cue' the Lance shows the FF to be cued to the new TC. If you go directly into record, it will record beginning at the initial TC. The solution.... press 'set' 01.00.00.00 'cue'. Then, 'play', 'stop'. This will REALLY cue the FF to the new TC. I always press the 'rec' button alone afterwards (placing the FF into EE) to double check that the new TC stuck. Next 'rec+play' and you should be recording @ the new TC.

TC was dead-patched (i.e. patch cord in the TC input and with the other end hanging in the air) when I had my issue. So, if I try doing a subsequent crash at any hour *BUT* hour 1 I should be okay? Thanks, Chad

Maybe you have timecode going into the FFW? Deadpatch the timecode input if so.

I have seen this before and don't have an idea why. On one FF I tried setting the machine to one hour and record from there but the FF always jumped back to 00:00:00:00. I was the able to record to 2:00:00:00 or other hourss but never to one hour. (No TC was connected to the FF either.)
