Hi all,

We've begun our Ignite training (the Ignite uses the Kayak frame) and i have some questions about the Kayak's RAM Store feature. Our trainer didn't really know how to use it! We can record stills, and they load into the RAM channel. But when i go to the Still List I should be able to re-name a still, right? There's a tab across the bottom called "rename" but it is the only one that is greyed out.

The other thing is about recording clips. No matter what I enter in the record duration box it stays as 1 second. Is there a way to loop a short clip?

There's no documentation and the trainer is no help. We'd like to at least use the RAM store for the backgrounds that we use for OTS's. I wonder what others out there are using the RAM store for?

I am working on an HD Kayak right now and the RAM recorder is working fine (we can even play all six channels at once). However, the last time I worked on this Kayak we had the same problems you described and I think it ended up being the options not being purchased. The other thing is that we had to record the clips from tape - we could not get the file transfer part of the sidepanel to work consistently.

Hi BML, just in case, the Grass Valley website has the manuals for download. For example go to: then click on 'Library' and then on 'Manuals'. The manual contains the description how to operate the RAM recorder from the Sidepanel program or the Kayak panel. hope that helps. Rolf

Well, I found out today from our Engineer that apparently the clip recording feature of that system is not working, and its something that Grass Valley knows about, and their team is working on it. Oh well, we did figure out how to grab still frames which will come in handy for certain things we do. The RAM store right now is probably a low priority for our Engineers. We have much more serious issues to overcome - namely, getting Ignite to talk to all of our equipment and replacing the unsupported devices. Our training is pushed back, as is the launch date, and there's just a lot of tension in the air here because we're only finding out **now** about all these major roadblocks on our path to automation. Apparently the sales people said that the system would work with all our stuff.....but it doesn't. That's what ya get for taking away the humans and putting control of all the devices in the hands of a computer!! :)

Hi Bruce, We have a DD35 which is apparently similar in operation to the KAYAK. In 'Normal VTR" mode the ram will record from where it is parked for the duration in Record Length...In/Out have no bearing at all. In Clip mode the RAM will record from the In point to the Out point... no matter where the RAM is parked. Cheers Roy

Is there a way to check how many frames you have in the RAM Store? From some brief reading on the web it sounds like the RAM Store is an option THEN the extended memory, like on a Kalypso is another option. You may have only the basic memory installed.

I've never seen a Kayak, so I'm not sure I can help. If the Ram Rec on the Kayak is the same as XtenDD, that's a different story. Since nobody else replied, I thought I'd give it a shot. Couple of Questions: When you tried to record, are you in clip mode or normal VTR? (Normal VTR is what you want, if I recall correctly). What is your inpoint and outpoint? It should match your record duration... We use it to loop clips all the time on the XtenDD. Again, I haven't seen a Kayak, so I'm not sure it's identical. I'll try to investigate further this afternoon. Mike
