I have a large frame mem animation that I need to load into an 8000A on a regular basis. Using a USB mem stick or loading from the internal hard drive takes forever, so I would like to try using an external hard drive to speed up the process. The problem is I have no idea where the firewire port is to hook this up. Also, how much time will it save me by loading the FMs from the hard drive via the FM menu rather then using the file menu (if that makes any sense)?

Bill - As Rick pointed out, the drive and its partitions show up in the Frame Memory Menu under a new sub-menu called HDD. You use the Backup & Restore features in this menu to save & load . And it loads/saves EVERYTHING that was in the Frame Memory...no picking & choosing like in the main File Menu.

Thanks for the info Bob, it will come in handy. Our truck is on the road the next few weeks so I don't think I will get a chance to try anytime soon, but I will let you know how I make out. Thanks again.
Bob, I assume once you plug this is, this drive shows up same as the HDD or memory stick does in the file menu? Is the firewire the reason for the increase in speed or is it the HD speed or both? thanks Bill
The firewire drive shows up the Frame Memory Menu. RE

The FireWire port is on the back of the frame, at the Frame Memory. There is a specific type of hard drive to use, so double-check before you go out & buy just any brand. I think that it's a Maxtor, but it's been a while since we put ours in & I frankly don't remember the brand name. Once it's formatted, it gets partitioned into 5 areas. That's a good thing for multiple show loads or multiple TD's. As far as saving you time, it's a HUGE timesaver. On Jeopardy, I have a couple of multi-second animations plus a bunch of stills. From the Menu drive or USB, it'll take about 35 minutes to load. With the external HD, it takes between 5 & 7 minutes. For Wheel of Fortune, I have lots of animations that run between 2 and 20 seconds and many, many stills, most with fill & key. From the Menu or USB, I'm normally looking at between 1 1/2 and 2 1/4 hours to load. With the External HD, I'm looking at only about 15 to 20 minutes. If you have large animations and/or lots of stills - or need to do a quick changeover between shows that have different sets of Frame Mems, the External HD is a fantastic thing to have.
