Hey all...
I'm new to the forums. I'm working on a 2ME MVS8000 in an HD environment. We have three control surfaces in different areas, one for P/P and ME2, one for M/E1, and yet a third small panel for M/E2 [primarily just to bring keys in and out].

That is all irrelevant for my question, but information nonetheless...

My question is about timecode based shapshot recalls or device playback. There are many times when we do productions with songs that have ProTools audio tracks syncing to tape playback via SMTPE. I have been wondering how I might be able to use the timecode reference from the device control area to trigger events. Also, we have several playbacks that are tied to "time of day". One such item is a "crew countdown" that plays on monitors "off-air" as a way to make sure the crew is position. We have a mix of staff and volunteers, so it is very helpful. What I would like to do is set this up to automatically play at the predetermined time without me having to push a button. It would actually allow me have a quick and rare bathroom break!

I hope that all makes sense...

Thanks! -t

We used to use a device called a Coincidence Detector - it would read time code & fire off a GPI trigger when the code matched a dialed-in point. It's an aftermarket product that's been out there for at least 20 years. At this point you might even find them on EBay, or one could probably be built by somebody with a little bit of electronics expertise. Alternatively, you could use an edit controller which would interface with the switcher, or use a simple automation program like those used in many Master Control facilities.

Ask someone to press "this" button when he wants the countdown clock to start.
