So on Saturday during Fox's Packer game I thought I saw the play clock fly in up on the score bug next to down and distance. Sunday during the Giant game it was in it's normal lower left position. Did I see this or not?
As a viewer I think I would like the play clock up all the time, much like the 24 sec clock in basketball. A lot of times the clock is shaking and looks bad, be nice if it was all part of the score bug. If there is no room put it in there just for the HD viewers :)

Bob was a hoot, but he was hard to hear on the cam PL compared to the Producer. Not sure why we had the producer in our ears anyway. Still, it was a heck of a ride considering the game, weather, etc... One thing is for sure, this was one show that I *really* missed being in the truck. When I was in school they called me Captain Picard because whenever I said "take" I'd point my finger like whenever he said "engage."
I've done studio shows on remote with Bob and, sitting next to him there's little doubt what he wants because he points to everything. ;-)
Reminds me of my boss when he directs. Fun when he gets frustrated with a TD and see him go "Put that..." *pointing at some source monitor* "...THERE" *pointing at PGM*
On a related note... I ran camera for their pre-game/half/post show at Lambeau this past weekend and I was impressed by the TD who cut my show. The PL traffic was insane, and I don't know how he sorted it all out to hear the director. Pretty chaotic for and hour worth of tv. He also worked hard to make sure we weren't stuck out in the cold for too long during facs, etc... Very cool guy. The only downside was that we only had one Duet op, and we really needed 2.
The TD you speak of is Robert LaMacchia and he's great. He and the director, Bob Levy, work together all the time. I'm sorry you didn't get the chance to see how animated Bob is when he directs. He's a TRIP! I've done studio shows on remote with Bob and, sitting next to him there's little doubt what he wants because he points to everything. ;-) JH

Did anyone notice during Fox's Giants/packers game, they had the play clock come exclusively from the fox box. They bought it on when it hit 10 sec. Joe Buck actually mentioned to look there for the play clock in the beginning of the game. Now I would say just have it on all the time or as soon as they break the huddle, etc. Less work for everyone, and nice to know how damn long it takes for them to get in and out of the huddle.
This has been an argument we have had with Los Angeles for several years. The FOX Box does have the software built into it to use the Play Clock within the strip and it has been there for many years. The problem is that it doesn't work in all stadiums which is why FOX never adapted the internal Play Clock and still used to old fashioned method of shooting the darn thing. We complained this year that the existing way we do it looks terrible (as you suggest)... and there is a push to make it happen for next year as much as they can in each stadium. It's very possible the FOX Box operator on the game you saw possibly hit a wrong key which threw up the internal Play Clock you have mentioned.
Ok, I know I saw it atleast once, it effected in and slid over the down and distance. Can't believe there are some stadiums it doesn't even work in, pretty bad. I like the idea of having it up there and on all the time.
