Kalypso Menu error

Hey all...

We recently upgraded to the latest version of the Kalypso menu (I'm assuming version 15, but I didn't do the install and I'm not currently at work).

Ever since, Dr. Watson keeps popping up and giving us an error, then closing out the program. It does this like 4 or 5 times a day. No major issues, we simply relaunch the application and go on about our business, but it's starting to get really annoying.

Anyone else have this problem?

Also, forgive me for being a relative newbie here...the station I'm at had the Kalypso when I started, so I'm not entirely sure of the configuration...does the PC that the menu runs on come from TVG, or would that have been supplied by us? The reason I'm asking is it's running Windows NT, which may in-and-of itself be a problem. Is it possible to simply hook up a newer PC to the Kalypso?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Bob! Yeah, we've got the older model, hard buttons & Windows NT. On another forum someone mentioned disabling Dr. Watson, so I'll try that and see if it does the trick! I just didn't know enough about it to know if it was OK to disable or not, but I've heard it a couple of times now, so hopefully that will take care of it. Troy Christensen KLAS-TV Las Vegas

If your Kalypso menu has hard menu buttons on it, then it is an older model & runs NT: the newer models have no hard buttons & run Windows 2000. I remember seeing Dr. Watson errors during testing when I was at GVG...the menu errors originated predominantly from the Transform Menu. At one place that I visited, they simply disabled Dr. Watson to solve the problem.

Hey Tom... Thanks for the info. I realized as I was typing in my question that I wasn't entirely sure of the configuration, so I thought I'd throw it in there. We showed the Dr. Watson problem to our IT department, and they basically said "Huh. That's weird", so I thought I'd go about trying to solve it myself. Not under new ownership just yet. We're in "wait-and-see" mode. Hopefully we'll find out something soon. Troy Christensen KLAS-TV Las Vegas

Hey Troy, As much as you'd like to blame engineering for handing you a legacy PC, it's actually integrated in the switcher...so you're stuck with NT (if it were up to Doug, he'd have given you a DOS system). However, it IS possible to network the Kalypso to a laptop (running XP or Vista)...if you dig back into the Editsuite archives there's a wealth of information here. Hopefully someone can answer your first question...I haven't been on a Kalypso in a few years so I'm no help there. Tom Perkins KLAS alumnus 1988-1996 PS - are you guys under new ownership yet?
