In a control room, I have an old but perfectly working DVS7250 and a Pinnacle eXcel DVE. They are not interfaced. In a production, there is the need to recall multiple effects a DVE and I would like to do this from the switcher shotbox. The DVE allow for BVW-75 remote control, so I have tried a serial link from an editor port to the DVE port.

I have no manuals. If I guess correctly, I have to setup the switcher Editor A port as "remote" instead of "editor", so that it becomes the master port, and issue commands to the DVE. I only need to cue up to a specific timecode, if I set it to 2:00:00, for example, the DVE will load the second effect in its loaded sequence.

I have tried to do this creating a shotbox that recalls a manual timecode to the VTR 1, but nothing happens when I recall it. I have also tried to assign it to an utility key, then to load and run it as if it were a timeline, but still nothing.

I'm quite sure the DVE setup is ok, I'm going to try with an editor controller to be totally sure. Can someone lend me any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Voltage should not be a problem, I have everything in the same rack in the CAR.

Hello, We split PBUS here...when we were setting it up, there was one concern that every time you split, you split the voltage of the signal...ie PBUS I think is5 volts....split, both "legs" would be 2.5 volts....etc...We are going up 3 floors from one room, and 2 in another...Didn't cause an issue, but if you are going long distances, you may have to go the DA route that Bill mentioned in his post. -Curt

What version software are you running in the DVS? If you have v5 then running BVW-75 out of remote 4 and 5 is possible if you have port expansion BKDS-7001 installed in the control panel. P-Bus is the better way of controlling the DVE but you can only have one p-bus port assigned on the switcher at a time. If there are no loop through ports then you will need to make a cable that has multiple drops to connect more than one device. P-BUS can control up to 24 devices on one RS422 line.

It is a good idea. I didn't say that the P-Bus port is already used for a DNF and neither it nor the DVE has a loop-through serial port. I will check if I can use P-Bus over another serial port and how to make the DVE to learn registers. Thanks for the advice.

You might want to try P-bus, both devices should be able to do that.
