Effective June 1st, 2008, the ABC network changed their safe title from the old 80% screen area to a 90% screen area. Basically the new safe title area moves to where safe action is. Safe action and safe title are now the same, there is no new safe action area.

Not that there's any more ABC Sports, but I expect that other networks will follow suit, if they haven't already. Makes sense, the networks already put graphics outside of the safe area (ESPN bottom line, football bug). Most any TV built in the last 15 years displays this area anyway and all the fixed pixel matrix displays like LCD and plasma can display 100% of the picture. I heard most default to 90-95% screen area.
That, and the fact that our jobs typically happen during the hours that anything worth watching is on TV anyway.
Tivo, man. Learn to love it.
Kind of ironic that a guy who makes his living in TV has such a small one.
I don't think I know a single person in the business who actually has all that great of a home entertainment system. I can understand it, though. When you get off work and go home, the last thing you really want to do is anything work-related. That, and the fact that our jobs typically happen during the hours that anything worth watching is on TV anyway.

Hey, I have yet to upgrade myself. After all, when I am home I don't watch much TV.

I have a tube HDTV (just 26"), and a lot gets lost at the edges. I've noticed many commercials have CG that falls outside safe title on my TV. Kind of ironic that a guy who makes his living in TV has such a small one. TV, that is.

It makes sense to me, I've always thought (in the short time I've been in TV) that safe title was a bit too conservative for modern TVs. Does anyone know where the very top of the ESPN baseball bug with the "after count" stats is in relation to safe title/action? On my TV it just brushes the very top.
