Quick question, does anyone know how to reset or reboot the buf spot (EVS) controller? I moved the box a few inches to a different area of the desk and all of a sudden all the buttons were wiped out. I unplugged the cable in the back and re-plugged it back in and all I saw was one button on bank one, key one that said: "COLD 1010101," when I hit that button nothing happened. Any ideas how to fix this?

Pedro, The buf spot has a capacity of 1024 ( or something close) unique names.. So...since w/ the EVS, you can't,( or should I say at the time couldn't) gang fill and key clips internally ( A/B in our case) , for each we use 2 unique names....out of the pool. So we in effect only have 512 "clips" available to us at one point in the box ( ex..122 A/B...is 2 out of the pool) Since we have more than 512 animations for all the looks and shows, this is why we can't have everything loaded at once. With the Profile ( in Secaucus) we were able to gang fill/key pairs in the proifle itself, so we had a pool of 1024. We marked and recalled one clip on each button. Profile did the rest by actually calling up 2 clips. Now, we mark a fill clip and a key clip to each button. In a sense each button is calling up 2 clips separately, and the Buf panel is set to gang two EVS channels. I was told recently by an EVS rep that you can now gang in the EVS. He set it up, and we are doing it for olympic effects in the one control room in NY. ( works great by the way) It is something that we can do at some point down the road, but I didn't think changing the way we do things going into olympics coverage and conventions etc was a good idea. There is also one other item that has to get worked out. Sorry for all the inside info on this post, but I figured someone else may be asking the same questions. -Curt

Hi Curt: I think I get it. On a separate note, how come you guys sometimes run out of "room" and ask DPS ops to clear unneeded banks to fit in new stuff? Thanks, Pedro

Pedro, As Bill mentioned...all is well now. I spoke w/ Bruce from Buf, and a few things could have happened. We still need to look into waht actually caused it. Here is what could have happened. Long story short...the software pgm for the panel is stored in flash memory. When the panel reboots, a check is done to see if the pgm in flash is ok. If pgm doesnt' check out, then the COLD 010101 pgm you saw gets loaded. There is a constent hardware check that is also done that monitors the pgm. If the pgm crashes and there is no response to the check w/in a certain amount of time, the panel reboots...When it reboots, the above could have happened. If the flash memory is bad, then the pgm could have issues...or I think it could have even been static. Curt ps...yes...the Bill here is one in the same.

Yeah, this was thursday. I don't think the files could be sent from the computer to the spot. I think the software crashed since we couldn't move the mouse (I may be wrong). They ended up switching the actual boxes from one control room to the other and then I think they reloaded the software and re-sent the files to the spot. Are you the same Bill D whom I heard so much from Allan and Curt?

Re-load the spot program (software). If this happened Thursday, I think that is what fixed it from what I heard.
