Hello all, I am relatively new to this switcher and I am looking to learn how to record and play back animations to the frame-store and what the limitations of such a process are. During the time that I have been on the switcher I figured out how to record and save short animations to the frame-store, it appears to be limited to 222 frames (it seems like a very random number to me). I am hoping that someone here would be able to offer an overview of how to save and recall these animations, and maybe even make them loop (if thats possible). I know its an 8000 although I don't know if its an "A" or "G" or any other letter for that matter, I can tell you its at least 3 years old with software at least that old too. If thats any help. Thank you all in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Allan - I actually don't go on the FTP site, so I'm not familiar with where it may be. I'll contact you directly & see what can be worked out.

Bob, Where can I get a hold of the most up to date emulator? The one I have is ancient. I haven't found anything on the Sony FTP site. Thanks, Allan
Can you download software to run on your PC like the Kalypso's Menu on PC? If so, do you know what it is called on the ftp site? thanks, Mike
PG2WIN is the menu software for PC. However, it's only an emulator...it doesn't act as another on-line menu, like the Kalypso does. It is good for learning the menus, though.

Going from 4.0 to the latest would be huge. It would be like a new switcher if you have an "A". I'd download the PDF manuals since then and examine all the release notes, then sell the idea of upgrading to everyone. Get through the November book first then immediately upgrade. You'll have until March to sort everything out since they're pushing that period back a month.

You can download the software off Sony's FTP website... and bribe your engineers to install it for you. You're missing out on a ton of stuff. If you get the most up to date software, it would be like punching on a brandie new switcher.

That is exactly what I am looking for, clip functionality. But I am guessing that because we are running (and I am rather embarrassed to say this) version 4.0 that we do not have the ability to make clips. Since the video I want to capture is longer than 99 frames I am assuming that I am out of luck. Now if only there is some way to have management get a software upgrade... (thats not going to happen) Thank you anyway Bob, I wish that I could have put your information to good use.

If your switcher software is pre-7.1 or 7.0, then you're limited to animations. Animations are a series of images that are played back using keyframes (each keyframe calls up a still)...you can have a maximum of 99 keyframes per register, and this limits the effective length of your animation playbacks. The advantage of animations is that you can play back any still in any order - forwards, backwards, putting holds on specific stills, change the KF duration to play back slower, etc. By playing back a timeline & using the KF Loop or the EFF Loop, you can loop parts of or all of your animation. Clips (menu page 2523 in v. 7.1) are recorded as a whole element, and have a playback menu (2522) that lets you set in & out points for the clip, as well as a LOOP function. The CLIP commands can be recalled via snapshots, not timelines.
