Has anybody ever run effects from an airspeed to the switcher? We don't have a FF or profile....trying to see if this would work.

Hey, if thats all you got then I say make it happen. Just have the art department do them flat - no key - and dissolve them in and out. Before we got clip stores my shop used a Sony SX VTR's harddrive with a PBus interface converter. We had most of our effects dissolve quickly in and out but there were a few things we actually luma-keyed. I'd like to know if you get two of those channels ganged consistently though.

The Avid Thunder is the product they "keep" for Key/Fill. The Airspeed does not support Ganged roll back of channels so you can't lock the two channels together and load the Fill on 1 and the Alpha on 2. You could create the files and perform the two operations in the Macro but you might have locked frame issues.

Running a Sony 8000G and an HD AirSpeed here. Technically, it is possible to do. We've considered it, but never went in that direction. The big issue we ran into was that all of our elements would have to chroma key, rather than have separate key/fill like you would on a FF or Profile. Not something our graphic artists really wanted to do. The chroma keyers on the Sony are very forgiving, but when the NBC peacock is part of almost every keyable graphic, it becomes more difficult than it needs to be. Our AirSpeed is connected as a Device through the Sony device control ... easy to operate and manipulate, but in the end, our news department won as they wanted to keep control of the clips we'd use, keeping them as part of our MOS/ENPS/VIZrt gateway. Hope that helps... Matt
