This coming weekend I?ll be cutting a show on CP Mobile Productions HD-1 Mobile Unit equipped with a Broadcast Pix Slate 5032 HD Switcher. I?ve never worked on this truck or used this switcher let alone heard of it before.

Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge of this switcher and or truck you?d be willing to pass along.

Feel free to post here or contact me directly at nycguy71@gmail.com
Thanks

I went to a demo for one of Broadcast Pix switchers. It was a long time ago, they were telling me that the 2M/E control panel was about to be released. I was seeing if this switcher would fill a specific need, but we ended up going with a Grass Valley Indigo to keep the feel consistent. I remember a few interesting things: This switcher was based off a PC running Windows XP. The actually hardware and processing were happening on a PCI card (or cards) within the PC. The switcher's actual operating software is Linux embedded onto the PCI cards. (So the good news is that the switcher is not actually running on Windows...) I remember that clips that are ingested on the machine will play automatically when taken to air. You could play a clip on Key 1 and take to another clip on Key 1 from the same internal playback channel without any delay. You can jump between clips while on air, no delay or frame of black. Some buttons can have colors and pictures on them to indicate their function. The transition palette (BGD, Key1, Key2, Key3, Key4) does not work like a Grass Valley transition palette. For instance, when you pressed BGD, it would not clear Key1-4 if they were selected on the last transition, it would only toggle background. I remember that there was some sort of Inscriber CG interface on the PC. I don't remember anything about macros / timelines / transform engines / device control. If I remember correctly, the model being demoed on only had one DSK. The switcher had several keys on the panel, but they could only be connected to internal sources (stills/clips/internal CG/background generator?) The DSK was the only key which could be connected to an external source. In fact, I think this is the main reason why we went with the Indigo. Again, this demo was several years ago, but I hope this information is helpful to you. Good luck on your show. Matt

Chris thanks for the link ? I had seen that before. Last night I was able to download a manual from the Broadcast pix website ? they also had some demo videos posted, but they're very general in scope, no "how to's" I guess I'm just looking for some feedback from anyone who might have some hands-on experience with this particular switcher.

It appears to me to be a remote version of Ross Overdrive or GV Ignite. It might just be you in the truck.
