I TD for a local cable company that bought an old NWT truck with a 3k on board, I?m trying to get Time code into the FF so I can use the Cueman software. I had my EIC patch time code from my Element reel into the FF, after that I have tried to get the Time code into the FF and it has not worked we have tried going into Chase lock mode and we are also in BVW mode with no luck.

Am I missing something that we are forgetting to do?

Thanks,
Toby

Toby,
If it's patched correctly, I'm pretty sure you should be able to get timecode into both channels of FF at the same time.
Also, were you able to record anything onto channel 2 of the FF (even if it was with the improper timecode)?  I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago where I couldn't record anything to one of the channels.  It just keeped showing the disk at full.  When I'd try to clear the disk, it would give me an error message.  It turned out to be the SCSI terminator on the back of the FF itself.

I was able to record on FF 2 but it took awhile, FF 2 was stuck in Pass Thru for some reason. (we also had issues with the Lance) The EIC had it patched with a Y so Time Code was going to both channels.
The Lance was stuck with control of all four channels on (we only used 2 of them) I could not just pick A or B to control the FF, so I had to cue everything on FF itself and then I could put my in and outs using the Lance, I had around 11 effects I need to do this with, It worked but it was a pain.

I was able to get Time Code into FF 1 but FF 2 would only go into Pass Thru, the EIC thinks we can only put Time Code in on channel at a time?
The EIC took the Y off the FF for Time Code so this week I plan on trying to do each channel by themselves and see if I can get that to work,
Should I be able to both at one time?

Thanks Mike, I had looked at the PDF for the FFV and it talked about Chase lock and hitting stop and play for two seconds and then you would get time code, I had done that and it was not working for me. Also when I would hit record and play at the same time it would not read the Time Code coming in, your trick of hitting record and once I see the time code and then hitting the record play worked great. I asked the EIC to run a cable so I could use Cueman software but he would not do that instead he had me install the Cueman software on his ENG computer and told me I could use that instead of my laptop. Thanks Again Mike!

Here are the web sites for FF and the manual. I would suggest that you give the EIC a PDF copy of the manual, for the truck and print one out and leave it in the truck. If you carry a laptop, keep a PDF copy there as well.

Thanks Mike, I will look into this on Friday when I'm back in the truck again, I know this should be pretty easy but I?m new to the Fast Forward and so is the EIC. Toby

The tape machine has to be playing before you record on the FF. If the machine is properly set up and TC is patched in, you should be able to play any tape out of the source VTR and then just hit the RECORD button on the FF and see the VTR's TC. (Don't hit RECORD & PLAY on the FF, just RECORD.) It has been a while since I have looked into the menus on a FF, not sure what has to be set where.
