In the Sony forum Bob Ennis has helped me with an idea that I can protect the clips and stills in our ramrecorder if power is switched off. The switcher is a Kayenne XL. Does anyone know the setting? Do I need to suggest extra hardware like a UPS to the company?

Hi,

so you're using a KayakHD mainframe ? If so , it doesn't matter what type of Control-Panel you're using e.g. KayenneXL or any Kayak CP. Just make sure you have any Recorder/Player device available (which don't has to be necessarily under remote control of the switcher) in order to record your RamRecorder content to this external device or play it back into the RR. When using a SP-Menu goto the RR-Menu and select "Transfer" (or use the built in menu in Kayak-CP) . Here you'll find RT-Import & RT-Export (RT = RealTime). So in order to make a backup of your entire RR content , select RT-Export . Specify the RR-Channel you want to use for playout (and make sure that one of your switcher-outputs is connected to your external recorder). Now the system will ask you in which directory on your SP-PC (or USB on Kayak-CP/or Kayak MF-HD) you want to save the Meta-Data file (with or without Audio) which contains all informations regarding length , X/Y playout-position , playmode , RR storing position , Clip or Still , etc. and give it a name . While saving the information to the specified location , a time-stamp wil be added to the filename (when creating multiple backupfiles for the same show - the same day) . As soon as the RT-Backup file is written the menu will tell you to start "Record" on your external device and than hit the "Continue" button in the Menu . Now you can reverse the procedure using RR/Transfer/RT-Import . Make shure that the designated RR-Channel used for RT-Import see's your external device as an Input and follow the onscreen instructions . Be aware of that the external deveice needs to be rewinded before starting the RT-Import. Before the active video starts on your external device you'll notice that there's 1 frame BLACK , and before that there's 1 frame -something like a "Barcode"- in the upper left corner which the RR uses as detection frame . Make sure to position your external playback device before that detection frame . All set !

Good luck & Best Regards

Helge

Cal -

I sent you updated info on this issue from my sources in Europe - it was not too complimentary to the Nevada City design team so I don't want publically post it.  Apparently the ability to do RAM backup has to do with the actual frame that this being used.  If you are using a Kayenne with a Kayak frame then you cannot do RAM backup...but if the Kayenne is driving an ExtenDD frame (which is a cobfiguration sold in Europe) then you will find a connector for RAM backup power.

Thank you Bob. I did not find your email , but 1 of the engineers got information from GVG who said the same as you about the e-box. We will work on another idea. Cal
