3D on an MVS8000g

I'm just curious how everybody is setting up the 8000 to work in 3D. My thinking is that a 4ME desk would become a 2ME switcher in 3D and you'd just link ME1 & 3 ME2 & 4 and have the normal for 4 keys per ME. The other option is keeping 4 ME's and only having 2 keys per ME. I'm just interested in whats been done currently. The 8000X takes away all these questions.
You could do it either way that you're describing. What we've been teaching is the use of the Main/Sub links...that way you keep the 4 M/E's, keeping track of the left eye/right eye path is easier, and because there aren't THAT many 3D graphics sources available yet, the limitation of 2 keyers per M/E isn't that big of a deal (yet).

For the 3D production of the 2010 Masters, I used the Main/Sub method. This enabled me to still have all 4 MEs. We only had a single graphics device plus a Spotbox, so the number of keys wasn't an issue. The Main/Sub method worked well, and I will use it in the future as long as keyers aren't an issue.
I suppose a hybrid of the two methods would also be possible. You could do Main/Sub for PGM with perhaps 1 key for Spotbox and 1 for Tele. Pairing ME3 & ME1, would give you a full ME with up to 4 keyers. ME2 could than be Main/Sub with 2 keyers. If you only needed 3 keyers for the ME3/ME1 pair, you could create a 4th ME on the sub side with a single key.
