Karrera?

Just heard about the new switcher from GVG called the Karrera.

From what I can tell, it looks like a downsized Kayenne (using the same menu panel), and a likely replacement for the Kayak.  Reminds me of what the Zodiak was to the Kalypso.

Any of our resident experts have any insight into this board?

No insight but this thing has the same number of keyers as a Kayenne and has Double Take as an option. The Zodiak wasn't as well equipped.

The big differences are the new panel has everything in a fixed place, no moving modules and it looks like the biggest panel has three stripes, so if you get a three ME system, with PGM/PST, you have to swap ME functions.

As for the Zodiak..... I will see one in a week or two. What fun.

That's pretty much right Mike.

The Karrera is a switcher with a panel which has all the accessibility features of the Kayenne, like the OLED displays, the ability to color sources, etc as well as all the frame features. The panel is a fixed layout and some features of the frame are options to let owners choose what they need while keeping costs lower. One really nice thing is that the Kayenne/Karrera pair have EMEMs and other setup/user files that are compatible, so if you know you want to transport macros or EMEMs you can plan a setup scheme to do that - make sure you keep EMEM level assignments the same, for instance.

I got to use one at the IBC show in Amsterdam for demos and, being quite a bit biassed, I liked it. (No surprises there!)

Did you get a chance to see the full function soft panel at all? It is a program which runs on a PC with a touchscreen and combines a menu with an ME stripe of buttons and also has a hard control panel for tactile operation. It got a good reception as an "instant panel" for standby, late notice use or even as a panel for use in less demanding places. Several people said it could be the extra power that helps set up complex items while the main panel works on - sort of the effects TD station.

I saw a photo of this menu panel and the ME stripe at the bottom, and wondered if that allowed cutting on the menu.  Interesting.

So it's the same software as the Kayenne?

Pretty much, yes. The one I had was a development system and it matched the Karrera. I had a 3ME panel in Suite 1 and the KSP in Suite 2. So it matches the Karrera or Kayenne.
