Looking at the Main Table inputs under ENG SETUP> Frame > Inputs, I see BLACK (source 81) as a source from input 118 thru to 123. Is this normal?

My understanding is that the sources from about 94 or 95 and up to 128 are the internal ME and PP bus output sources which are used to route the ME outs to the other ME buses for re-entry. We were also advised to not change the order or disable/inhibit any of these sources (fair enough).

But my question is, why would BLACK have to be re-entered on the MEs? I always thought that it was just mapped to which ever button assign the TD wanted to have designated as BLACK.

thx.

As Wink mentions, there are many more sources available in the right column than are programmed in the left column - such as all 6 of the M/E outputs, M/E Processed Keys, and DME MON VID/KEY...not everyone uses all of these internal inputs. My understanding is that having BLACK programmed into all of these buttons act as placeholders where you can custom program your own sources. So you could overwrite any of the BLACK placeholders with any combination of V/K sources, such as using an M/E's 2 Key Previews to act as Fill & Key so that you can layer multiple keys similar to Kalypso.

Not sure which menu you're referring to here, but if you look in menu 7322.5, Main Table, you'll see that sources 1-80 are external inputs, then sources 81-128 are internally generated signals including black, white, frame memory outputs, M/E re-entry sources etc. You don't need to have black assigned here - as you say, it's available on all busses as source 81.  However, you might want to assign the correct key signals to your M/E outputs - e.g. if you want to key M/E1 over another source on say M/E2, you'll need to assign white as the key source - or possibly M/E 1 processed key if you need to cascade a composite key.
