Hi there
We are thinking about converting our linear suite to HD, we know about all the rest of the kit but are there any pointers with our 2010?

Dear Phil In the spec file approx line no 418 and 419 looks like this now RecHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 01 } PlayHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 00 } Change them to RecHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 FF } PlayHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 FF } This will result in setting the confidence mode from DVW?s local control panel Best Regards Atul Abekas Tech Support

Hi Phil, I'm not entirely sure on this, not being in front of an Axial and DBeta, but in a quick look at the specfile, I see the following around line 419:
# For RecHead and PlayHead cmds below, substituting FF for 00 or 01 # will result in these commands being ignored, deferring to local # panel selection. RecHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 01 } PlayHead 1 COMMON { 41 34 00 }
That might help you out. I forgot if I walked you through editing a specfile while I was there. It's easy. Call me if you want and I can talk you through it. If you don't have my #, send an email and I can email it to you. Regards, JH

Is there something that can be done that will make the record deck, a DVW-A500 not turn on confidence mode. I assume, in the spec. file. Or could this be an option in the assign manager od the Axial 3000. I get terrible audio scrubbing noise when the recorder pops into confidence mode. Thanks, Phil B

Thanks John, This is just one of the options our MD has spoken about, nothing will happen on this front for a few months I'm sure. I will have another look at the Abekas site later. It's not my decission which way the company goes and yes I'm fully aware of the bennefits of linear suites having lived in them for many years. The company has just got a Final Cut Pro with 7 terra bites.

Hi Rog, Well, your question is easy, actually. . . the 2010 won't handle anything other than NTSC or PAL frame rates. If you really want to do HD, you would need to upgrade to a new Axial/MX. You can have HD video on screen (with the cool and handy video option) as well as edit in 24P. Plus the entire system will blow your socks off in how speedy it is compared to the 2010. You are not alone in updating your linear suite. It's recognized that some projects just make more sense to bring into a linear bay rather than spend the time digitizing and re-outputing to a NLE. I still do some business helping install and train Axial folks. As you probably know, Abekas is alive and selling Axials, you can find out about the Axial/MX by going to http://www.abekas.com. Or if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. -John
