I am trying to set up the 9100 to edit onto the Sony DVCam DSR-2000 deck. It is currently set up and edits, but is using an older deck protocol. With the older deck protocol I am unable to get the preread to work. Is anyone using this configuration and what is the deck protocol you are using to get the preread to work? I have seached for documentation on this and have been unable to find anything as to how I should be setting up my constants.

Thanks in advance,
Jason

In the interests in keeping alive the Sony 9100 forum for old times sake (where is the MVS forum?)... Are you sure you've set the constants correctly - namely the machine ID ( the first 2 sets of 2 digits which ID which machine is connected ). The rest of the manual digits only work if those 4 digits match what the 9100 is being told is attached. It may be that the vtr is pretending to be a BVW75. Easiest way is to go into the contants for that vtr, hit F8 to go to the B page and 'recall' - this loads currently used constants for editing. Then go to VTR constants(F4), config (f3) and change data 7 to be 04.

This is a VERY old thread that I am resurrecting. I hope that I get a reply here. I have all the parameters and constants set properly for the DSR-2000 in the 9100 and when I try to preread I get the error 'Assign Tail Cache'. I am trying to do it by doing a dissolve from R to P1. With the parameters being set correctly, what else could it possibly be that I need to set to get the 9100 to accept the fact that the DSR-2000 can preread? Do I need to trick the machine by dissolving to an Aux that is set to the crosspoint of the record deck while manually turning the preread 'ON' on the deck? Sorry for resurrecting this, but I am having some issues and the students are getting restless (okay not really, but now it is a personal goal to get it fixed) Thanks, jason

Jason: The BVE-9100 has an additional Block of constants called "Configuration" and one of the databytes (Data 7) tells the 9100 if the VTR is capable of Pre-Read. Data 7 must be set to 04 to enable Pre-read. The complete BVE-9100 constant list for the DSR-2000 follows: Constant1 Constant2 Configuration 80 14 00 96 05 05 03 80 0A 08 FE 00 80 5A FF 5A 01 00 88 81 04 00 04 00 Alternately, instead of entering the data manually, the following 2 lines can be copied and pasted exactly as it is written into the VTR30.IDT file and the 9100 will automatically ID the DSR-2000 # DSR-2000 80 14 00 96 05 05 03 80 0A 08 FE 00 80 5A FF 5A 01 00 88 81 04 00 04 00 Regards. Okay the head maintence guy found the book for the DSR-2000 and I was able to set up the constants per the books settings but the 9100 will still not allow me to pre-read with this deck. Any ideas?? J
