Does anyone else need a utility to convert to and from GVA/GVI format to TIFF? I recently wrote a small program that runs on Mac OSX or WinXP that converts JPEG,TIFF,PICT(on Mac) and Photoshop graphics to GVA/GVI and from GVA/GVI to TIFF. (The WinXP version has a few flaws as it was cross-compiled from the Mac version). It can also take a sequence of files and turn it into a Kalypso Cip. The reverse operation ( Kalypso Clip to Quicktime Movie) only works on Mac. The program requires Quicktime (7 I'm sure of but earlier may work). If you want to try it, go to my website and download the appropriate version.

Announcing the New and Improved (I hope) GVDekoder. It is now up to version 1.4.0 for standard definition. The major change is that the alpha channels of imported graphics are handled better and you can now choose between "straight" and "pre-multiplied with black" on import. This is very helpful when importing Photoshop files as they have straight alpha channels. The "shaped' attribute is now properly set. (I think) And for the people who live on "the bleeding edge" of technology, there is now a version that handles High Definition stills. This is version 1.4.5 and is now on the web site in the Mac Downloads section. (The Windows versions of 1.4.0 and 1.4.5 should be online by 5/30/06.) CAUTION: this is a Beta version and I have no direct way of testing the stills it creates. If you have problems, contact me through the email address on the "About" page.

Jay, Do you think you might be writing a version for Kalypso HD stills? We Mac users doing HD shows hate having to open up dog slow Virtual PC just to convert and upload one tiff with the very limited Still Store Loader app. I'm sure someone at GV (John Willis or Bob Ennis perhaps), or even myself for that matter, would be more than happy to supply you with test HD stills in both 720p and 1080i. I would love to be a beta tester if you're looking for someone to scope out the Mac side. By the way, I just met you at NAB up at the GV booth while kibitzing with John Willis. My email: herklotzm@earthlink.net Thanx! Marc (aka "Herky")

Oops, I forgot to mention that the software was intended for SD NTSC stills only. However, if you need a PAL version, I have posted a VERY BETA version of GVDekoder. I think the full stills should work but I don't know about any other features since I can't test on a PAL setup. The BETA will be Mac only until I know it works (no feedback, no progress). The reason those of you with PAL systems are having problems with the original software is that the buffers aren't big enough and it is writing too small a file. Once again, sorry for the confusion.
