I'm going to be using the Xtenn DD for the first time July 4th for local TV coverage. I TD the Magic away feed and do other regional sports as well in Florida but have only used Grass 3k/4k and Kalypso switchers and was wondering what the learning curve is? The truck is the NMT-HD5. I'm told the only effects will come from the Dveous...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Scotty- Thanks. I also found an operators manual on-line which I will print. So this should help as well. Again, thank you for the help. Mike

Mike, We did a boxing show out of the HD5 once. The Xten HD is a great switcher-- however in this particular truck they have the 1 ME version. (PGM/PST plus ME1). When we used this truck, we had some trouble getting the communication between the Xten and the DVEous working. I had to recall all my effects manually. If you're only doing 1 DVEous effect, you should be fine... But I would make sure to ask the EIC right off the bat about the communication. It has been my experience with the Xten and the 3k/4k Kalypso that they are very much different. For example, the Xten does not have DPM buttons, like the other GVG switchers; instead one must set those parameters in a special "define" menu. Macros are easy on the Xten. In fact, most of the effects I run on a daily basis, I use macros for. So, the learning curve? It's slow, but once you get a few of the basic differences, I'm sure you'll be fine. I'd be happy to answer (as I'm sure the other Xten/DD35 users would be) any specific questions you might have. Good luck! Scotty
