Hello all, a GPI question.

We have a DVS-7350 installed in our OB facility, it uses the older CPU192 board, and not the "192A" version, more common today.

Now, I know you can't fire GPIs from within an effect or keyframe, I just wonder though,
what is the option to ture DME 3&4 and 5&6 to "GPI" insted of "9PIN" for?
meaning, is there a way to turn the above mentioned DMEs into GPI-Driven?
If so, how whould I fire those GPIs? and can I implement those GPI-Triggers into a keyframe and so use them in an effect?

Itay Tsafriri,
MVP, Israel.

GPI loopback is where you loop a GPI output back into a GPI input. Most switchers have the ability to trigger a cut or dissolve upon receiving a GPI trigger, so you would trigger a GPI within a timeline in order to cut between arbitrary sources in a timeline instead of having the timeline define which sources are used. It's not so useful on modern switchers that have macros that can be triggered from timelines.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what does a GPI loopback do? and how are they helpful? Thanks.

Hi, I am not sure about the differences with the boards either....at my last station we did use Timeline Control. I am not in front of a 7350 right now so I cannot give you exact keystrokes etc..... The way I remember it working is that there are two sources for the GPIs 1) The Frame has GPI outputs that will fire based off of button pushes on the switcher (M/E 3 Auto Trans, M/E 2 Key 1 On etc.....) 2) The Panel has a port that using the provided wiring diagram can provide GPI outputs - these can only be controlled through timeline control. In the device control menu u turn the DME 3/4 delegations (or possibly DME 5/6) into P2 Control. The menu makes it look like you are setting up PBUS control....but the P2 sets up both PBUS control and enables GPI Control in the timeline. The switcher should reset itself....and you are now able to insert GPI information using the P2 menu and DME 3/4 Delegation to store keyframe GPI info. We were using a few GPI loopbacks to fire an auto trans on the PGM/PVW bus and noticed that some of the DSKs would not perform auto trans when a GPI was received. There is a software upgrade that is needed....it was done for MSNBC and is considered a "beta" version because it was released after the switcher was already mature so it was never ran through the complete line of tests - I used it for at least 2 years, and they are still using it, and we never encountered any problems related to the software version. If you find out you do have the correct board/software requirements to do this and you need more help let me now - I can dig up my notes. -Clint

I believe the panel can be used in a timeline and the frame is used based on the cut button, etc. Bill
