Hello,

Is there a menu setting to allow external DME's to act like internals, in that I can use them for DME links as well? I see where there is a setting for DME Type, either dedicated, or SDI....(Menu 7337.6) but this doesnt' seem to have an effect...atleast not for what I am looking for.

I seem to remember the topic coming up here, and I also know, a fellow TD/friend/poster on here who has gotten it to work on I believe an 8000A frame.

I have an 8000 frame, w/ 5.42. 4 Internal, ( MKS 8800), 4 External ( MVE 9000)

Thank you as always for any help.

Curt

Rick, Sorry it has taken almost a month ( literally ) to get back to you. So..I tried this on the 8000A frame ( HD) we have...and it works great. On the 8000..not so much. I took the setup from the 8000 frame to the 8000A, so I know the setup is the same. Must be a limitation of the non A ( or G) frame. Thanks for the tip on the switcher not knowing that the externally fed channels are in use. I can see now how this could really be a bad thing if you don't manage your DME's well. I am learning that managing the DME's and try to predict how you are going to use them...as well as what effects will come before and after is very important. thanks again. Curt
Rick, thank you for the quick response...I assume I set the in/outs you mentioned in menu 7337.7, DME SDI I/F menu? Not in front of the switcher...but I will check it out the next time. Once I set the in/outs...I assume I will be able to assign DME 5-8 ( my externals) to a keyer like the internals? As of now, I am unable to even assign it. The lights for DME 5-8 in the keyer module stay dark all the time. Thanks again, Curt
Curt, That's correct. The only issue you need to be careful with when dealing with DMEs that are installed as external is if you use them the "old-fashioned" way (in other words, you directly feed them with Aux Bus and key as a crosspoint) that the MVS has no idea the DME channel(s) are being used. If you press DME Wipe somewhere on the switcher and DME 1-4 are used and the switcher sees 5-8 available it will grab starting at DME 5. It will grab the DME channels and re-route them. It's not a bug, it's just that the switcher only knows how to manage the DME channels when they are assigned to keyers. There is a setup menu where you can tell the switcher to never use certain DME channels on an M/E. RE

Curt
On the 8000 system, you can always use either the MVE-8000A or MVE-9000, configured as SDI I/O, to work nearly exactly like those configured as "internal." You do have to tell the switcher what inputs and outputs they are on, but after you do that you can attach external channels to keyers, use them as DME wipes, etc. RE
