Hey All, has anyone been on NCP 7? I will be doing my first show with this truck and want to see if there are any tricks. On the equipment list is a spotbox, but no FF. Thanks.

(Edit) I meant to say Lance, not FF misspoke on my part. Much Apologies. Shouldn't post on no sleep.
Lou, that is one of my favorites. I had a producer once that had done the same show on three different trucks but asked me each time if I had the monitor wall from the last show...
I was trying to be flexible, but when the Monday show is X-Y-Z, and the Wednesday show is A-B-X something's gotta give.

I would imagine you need to load the clip into each channel? I could just call the clip up once in each channel since I won't have time for the EVS op to clip my elements. Then set my in - out, and save the registers as needed right... It seems to make sense, but I want to avoid about that one little "gotcha" that will slow things down.

Only issue I've run into is truck staff wanting to keep their setup close to what was used on the prior show, in the end, as I suggested in the beginning, it'd have been easier if we just started from scratch. Producer wasn't going to use the same tape names, tape wasn't going to use the same decks, and I was caught in the middle.

Remember on the Lance you need to learn the clip recall information as well as timecode numbers. In the Lance menu set the clip store/recall to on (it was most likely off for the FF) this will enable the Lance to recall individual clips. If you stay with one clip you don't necessarily need this (although I always use it to be safe). If the In button flashes at you on the Lance then that is telling you that there is no clip information stored at that particular clip register. Another thing that can bag you (or help) is the clip filter. This is also set in the menu on the Lance. If it is set to a number then you will only be able to see clips in that range. So if the filter is set to 1 then you will only be able to see clips in the 100s, 2 then clips in the 200s and so on. Sometimes it is nice to use this to filter out all of the other clips so you don?t have to look at a lot of clips that you don?t need. To load a particular clip hit Clip List then scroll through your clips with the jog wheel. When you see the clip you need then hit Cur ? this will load the clip. You then need to hold down the channel buttons that you want to be learned (ie 1&2 or 3&4 or 1,2,3,4 etc) and while holding these buttons hit the set button. This will learn the channel delegation as well as the clip number then enter your in and out points. Hope this helps. Ed

This will be my first spotbox show. I am pretty sure this is a CSTV show. We will have about 5 hours or so for setup. Pre-tapes probably start at 11am. I haven't received any other information. Feel free to pass along any spotbox tips. Thanks man.

I'm on this truck a lot and we rarely run into issues. And, the games I've been working are for Espn and they give us 10hrs to setup. Its never been a problem getting all the work completed. It sounds like you've never worked with the spotbox. It is much, MUCH more reliable than the FF. It shouldn't take much time for you to figure it out.

JJ you will have to let me know if you run into any issues...are you doing single day shows or do you have a set day?

I'm on NCP 7 today and Wednesday.... it has a Lance, 4ch. Spotbox, DeveousMX, and 6 (fully, FULLY loaded) transforms. Its pretty much one of the best trucks around as far as toys for the TD.

I am guessing the EVS op will not have time or the desire to make you a bunch of clips, especially for just one show with no setup day. Treat it like a FFV do one clip and just read up in the lance manual about loading a clip. Once you load it and build off that, you will be fine.

I'm sorry, I misspoke. I meant the Lance Controller NOT the FF. Jesus, sorry about that. I was thinking one thing and saying another. I meant to ask if the truck had a lance controller. Anyway excuse my prior post. Would you suggest the one strip clipping, or asking the EVS op to clip everything for me?

Do you mean how to control the SpotBox? Lance, same as if you had the FF. However when using a SpotBox you have to have the Lance load the clip, a little more involved then using a FF. Once you learn you will say "that was easy."

In reference to the missing FF, what is the best way to get the Kalypso to Control that. I will be running into the first FF'less show with the spotbox. (Edit) I meant to say Lance, not FF misspoke on my part. Much Apologies. Shouldn't post on no sleep.

The truck is nice. You are correct, no FF unless the client requests one. I had that happen once on that truck. For most shows there are more monitors then you will need. The Kalypso has all the options, it also has a DVEous MX and I think multiple DVEous outputs show up in the switcher cross points if you need them. (Many shows don't.) One word of warning, watch the steps in production, I have seen people come close to falling. Even though the truck has a B unit, strike is not bad. The drivers know where everything goes and they are helpful and efficient.
