Hi again,

Well our station is going for the 3 1/2 ME Sony 8000g!! And I just found out that we will be purchasing an omeneon server, just curious if anyone has had any experience with tying this server into a switcher.

They have a "media deck" which is a small intergrated server that looks like it could also serve double duty as a nice little fast forward or spotbox??? Anyway..I am rather new to servers, about the only two that I know of are EVSes and profiles

We have been using the Omneon with the 8000A for about a year and have not had any problems. We use it in the VTR mode. When deciding which mode to use VTR/VDCP, I found it took a bit longer for animations to cue up in VDCP. Having the clip names on the display panel was a positive, but it would take 2-3 seconds longer to cue a clip. In VTR mode, the workload upfront putting in the timecodes was a bit more, but the clips cued up much quicker. We use alot of animations to say fly in a NBA score and then load a new animation and effect to the next hilite. So the extra couple of seconds for VDCP mode to cue was bagging us. We use 4 channels. The only negative now that I think of it was we put a clip(Monitor Anim) in a panel and LOOPed it. It would loop 2 or 3 times and stop, when the clip should keep looping endlessly. We showed Omneon this, but they could not really tell us why our system was doing this.

Omneon is solid. Never had an issue with it. We have a 5 channel playout, but only 3 available for production, the other two are assigned to edit bays. It has never failed on us in the 4 years we had it...knock on wood.

You won't need any type of external controller. And you'll get all the clip names on the Sony touchscreen display. RE
