Effect Send on a GVG-4000

I want to use the Background A & B of an ME as Effect Sends, but it doesn't seem to work. It works on Key 1 & 2. What am I doing wrong? I'd appreciate some help.

Make sure you're in Layered mode and turn on keyers A and B. I think A comes on by default, then you have to turn on B. Send them to the proper channels via the aux bus. Oh, and select LUM key with the gain maxed out.
