Our timebuy show today was the first show to use one of the new Foxboxes, I believe new hardware and for sure a new version of the software. We spent the entire first half rebooting it because the clock wouldn't run. We weren't tethering to a scoreboard, it wouldn't even run by itself. If any of your shows get one of the new Foxboxes make sure you fax the hell out of it.

The version we had was portable. It's like a standard tower case with an LCD monitor built into the side of it. Just plug in keyboard, mouse, and sync/fill/key and you're good to go. If you don't have room for a full tower case in your working area for the foxbox op, you can unplug the built-in monitor (the cable snakes out of the case and plugs into the graphics card on the outside), stash the case somewhere out of the way and plug in a separate monitor. The connection is DVI, so monitors with VGA connectors will need an adaptor.

Just wondering, will there be a portable version or will the production folks be carrying around a rack mount box for those times they visit a non FSN city?

As much as I like the sound of all the functionality they're packing into it now, I'd really prefer that they got the little things like the countdown clock working first. =D

Mike, I am not good at writing long replys so read with care. LOL I am working the Fox College Football package and have work with the new fox box unit. I will say when this unit is up and running it has one heck of a WOW factor. The unit was build by Fox and a company called Ventuz. To me it is the 1st step into the VizRT world. I see this unit helping out the duet ops with more Sales GFX and yes it is a FULL DUET for lower 3rds and starters and blah blah blah.... I will let you know and everyone else that this unit will be replacing all the old units. They are still working out the bugs for hockey.

Rick, I have also heard that Comcast's new bug will be like that too. The new FoxBox does appear to be a different frame. Of course they probably will not send the crwers in non Fox city's any form of manual to send to the ops, so they can be prepared.

From what I'm hearing the new FOX Box will be a full time position now. It will require the operator to be part of the main set up and statistics to be inputed and run from the box itself. This is a more intensive roll than in years past and while I'm sure there are bugs now (no pun intended), they will get resolved in the coming weeks. The Fox Box will be a bigger part of the on air look and most probably like ESPN's slider.
