I am on a kayak for the first time this weekend. I have been throughly reading the manual but without being in front of the panel some things are difficult to grasp. I am very familiar with the operation of the kalypso. The show should be fairly simple so I will have alot of play time

I am looking for a comparison between the two, any info would be great

thanks

greg
Mike, The show I did was fairly simple (non-sports) so I had alot of time to play and figure things out. I do have a list of issues I had but don't have access to it now. Honestly I don't know how you guys that use it for sports is getting by. It took me so long to build a few simple effects. greg
Once you get used to it, it's not so bad. It has a couple of huge advantages (to me, at least) over the Kalypso. Macro editing is one, the ability to name your emems is another, and the ability to select your transition elements (background and individual keyers) on the program bus when you run an emem is another. BUT, it's not as mechanically solid as a Kalypso, and it has a pretty steep learning curve.

Greg, sorry about the first post, I was doing some surfing just before heading out the door. One of the biggest things is the need to define what each ME controls BEFORE you start building anything. The other thing is do you want to use a timeline or a macro to run the effects. Mapping sources is a little awkward, but I think better then on a Sony 7000. The biggest problem I have trying to offer help is that the last time I saw a Kayak was back in late August. Hopefully I get some refresher time before the first MLB game. The one good thing is that once you get a macro built, copying it is easy. Good luck.

Mike, Yep I figured that... looking at the menu emulator I know I will be in for a wonderfull day! The good thing is the client knows this and is willing to sacrifice a bit which helps. I was hoping there would be something familiar between the two to make the transition a little smoother greg

There is NO common concepts between the two. The Kayak is the evil son of the very powerful and useful Thompson DD35 family. Do not go in thinking of any commonality. Mapping, building timelines, etc is different.
