For any TD interested in an in-depth understanding of Grass Valley's new Kayenne Video Production Center, Grass Valley is offering the opportunity to get instruction from Colby Bourgeois, Ed Collins, or John Howard on how they are using Kayenne in their productions. These 2.5 day courses will be held in various North American locations. Class size is limited to four participants and participants should have a working knowledge of Kalypso or Zodiak switcher operation. For details on the course, go to .

We are offering a couple more Kayenne TD classes in Nevada City starting March 5th and March 30th. The first class has two open spots left and will be taught by Ed Collins. The second class will be taught by Colby Bourgeois. This is a great opportunity to get instruction from the people who have been running Kayenne in their productions. To register for the course go to https://corporate.cyberu.com/LMS/catalog/Main.aspx?tab_page_id=-67&tab_id=6

Is there another link that you can pass along?  This one doesn't seem to be working.  Do you know if there will be any other dates offered or classes at NAB this year?

I'd be interested in attending a class in Atlanta.

We are all aware of the price of flights these days, so we aren't going to randomly cancel a session. More likely we would try to find someone else to fill it.

GVswitchers, I have a question that I need answered before I book a class. What happens if three people book a class and then eight days out one cancels? Would the class then be canceled? Since I don't travel that much anymore, I get enough local work, I would be paying for my own airfare. I don't want to pay for tickets I can't use if GV cancels seven days out.

We have 11 sessions proposed between now and the end of the year. We'd like to fill those before we start adding additional locations. The calendar for the training sessions - and any sessions we might add - is located at

Will there be more dates offered in 2010?

Thanks for additional location suggestions. We'll post changes to the schedule as they become available. First class underway this week in Nevada City with all seats taken.

I don't mind traveling and paying for a class, but enough lead time is important. To cancel events with one of the crewers I work with I need at least 30 days notice to cancel on them. Any thoughts on classes in the DC area?

Any chance on freelancers getting a break on the tuition? Abekas used to let freelancers take operations classes on their switchers and DVEs for free. People from companies and stations were the ones that paid tuition. Yes, I know we can write-off the tuition on our taxes but we still need to come up with the money up front. Irv

Thanks for the recommendations. We'll see what we can put together after we get the current sessions going. First one in Nevada City is already full.

Somewhere in the Southeast would be great, too ... Atlanta, Tampa, or Orlando.

We will be offering classes in other locations (including Europe). These three locations were offered first because switchers are already in place. If you have someplace you would prefer, let me know and we'll see if we can get enough attendees to ship a system in.

How about a Scandinavian location, then you can get people from Norway, Sweden and Denmark (and even Finland) to be able to learn more about the Kayenne. From Stockholm it´s not far for the baltic countries, from Copenhagen you have Germany close and if you choose Oslo you have UK in the nearby.

Will there be any 'special operator' courses in the east any time soon?
