I've never had a problem with either Sony or Sandisk Pro Duo cards or M2 cards in a Memeory Stick Pro adapater. I've used 4gb cards with both of them without any trouble. You can get them for around $15-$20 if you look around online.

I've heard horror stories from people who have used USB thumb drives.

I have found that when importing from a USB stick it takes awhile for the USB to be read...Has the "red light" in the upper left gone off?

Sony suggests not using anything larger than a 2GB memory stick, but I have used larger and not had a problem.

A few things that I can suggest ...

1. Go to page 7317, and hit 'refresh' (purple button, about halfway down the page under a sub-heading that says USB Storage Device).  You should see values populate one of the rows in the table just above (memory information about your USB drive).  Highlight the row that your USB drive appears in, and look for the small purple button next to the refresh button you just hit that says 'set primary' ... tap 'set primary'.  Now, your drive will be the primary USB mount point.  Try loading your TIF files again.  From that same menu (assuming you're on 7.x or newer), there is also an option to auto-mount a USB drive when you plug it in.  Sometimes, I've noticed that I still need to force a refresh, but the drive will auto-mount as primary.

2. If the above info doesn't help, go to page 9994.  Here, you can perform a non-destructive test of your USB drive (just to make sure the switcher is OK with your USB drive).  I seem to remember it being a semi-lengthy process, so you might want to start it before heading out for a coffee or to grab a bite to eat.

3. I feel bad suggesting this, but make sure you're on page 7162 for the TIF import/export. As far as I know, you can't do it directly in the FM menu.

Hope that helps. Let us know how you make out...

You can try going to a maintenace screen under the ENG MENU... (sorry, forget the actual page number)... Once there, you can try USB refresh. Also, you could check to see if the AUTO DETECT for USB is switched on, again it is under the same maintenance menu.

I have found that a SCU reboot will fix the problem with not seeing USB sticks.   I have had it happen and it won't read any.   Wish there was a better solution.
