If I have done a show in HD with stuff in frame mems (clips and stills) and next week they decide to do the same show in SD, can I still utilise all my HD frame memory stuff or do I have to re-import them into the frame mem in SD?? Is there a setting or anything that allows this?

Thanks

So the desk gives you this ability? Whats the process?

Thanks

I would suggest that they do the show in HD, do a HD line record and use a downconverter for transmission.

Not likely we will be dropping HD soon and the HD master will give them options in the future.

An AJA FS-1 or one of the Harris or Everetz boxes can do the job.

If you are actually changing the mode of the switcher from HD to SD, you'll need to re-capture your FMs.

Is there any chance that you could convince them to do the SD 4x3 as a center-cut downstream?  Maybe your switcher has Format Converters on a couple of the outputs that would allow you to do this, too.

Either way, you could leave the switcher in HD mode (as long as all of your HD elements are 4x3 safe), and the SD show just becomes the job of one of your switcher's output FC's, or an aspect ratio converter that occurs between your switcher and transmission.

Hope that helps...

If it were me, I'd export all of my FM's into a TIFF format, and then re-import them after the switcher's been flipped to the new format.

(1) Go to the FILE Menu - All, External File (Menu page 7161).  Here you will see a sub-menu called IMPORT/EXPORT.

(2) In the IMPORT/EXPORT menu, select your Frame Mem files & EXPORT them to a thumb drive (I use the TIFF Format as this allows for embedding any key channels associated with fill channels) - I suppose that you could use the menu's HDD for this, but I use a thumb drive.

Don't forget that you must 1st set up the thumb drive as the Primary USB storage device - this is done on menu page 7317.

(3) To IMPORT thumb drive files back into the Frame Mems, reverse this process in the Import/Export menu (do this after you've switched the format over).

If you find that you have any problems on this & it doesn't want to re-accept the images in a different format, you can use an aftermarket program on your computer such as Hijack Pro to quickly & easily change the size of your tiffs to match your format.
