production format question

This might seem like a strange question to ask, but curiosity is getting the better of me...
How does a major facility like CBS Television City accomodate production for a client or other network using a different HD format?
For instance, "American Idol" on Fox, I understand that it is produced live at Television City, so I assume it would be in 1080i format, but Fox is a 720p format network.
Does CBS Television City have a multi format production or release center? Or, would Fox accept the 1080i feed, and then cross convert to 720p at their end prior to network distribution?
Can CBS change the format of a control room to be all 720P if a client requires it? (cameras, switcher, tape/servers, grfx. etc.)

Not sure what CBS does but at least one sync generator can generate multiple different sync signals at the same time. A router shouldn't care what format the signals are, as long as the bandwidth is not exceeded. If you build a facility to be flexible, for example have different reference types available to feed CCUs or switchers, via patch panel, then a facility should be able to change with needs.
The other option is to produce the show in 1080i and have a cross converter between the output and transmission or the record VTR.
I have done plenty of games where inside the truck we are one format, but we convert the output for transmission.
One thing to remember, some things are one format only, Sony HDCam. Other devices can run either format.
