Kahuna strobe freeze?

Sorry, don't know exact model. Just wanted to check that the Kahuna can do a strobe freeze - namely replicating 29.97P within a 59.94P source by repeating every other frame? Looking at the manual it seems that it would involve 'muliti-grab' - basically I want to freeze for 2 frames every 2 frames.

Hopefully there's still some GVG knowledge in here...

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt response Ken. Great to hear that the Kscope film mode evolved...

Not sure what the Kahuna model is yet (it will be a rental). Presumably the 3D DVE is a limited resource and the resizers on later models are per keyer?

My thinking is to have the TD lock off part of the switcher to just ‘film effect’ (frame double) 5994P. So the input (presumably via a kahuna aux bus) will be a router destination and the output (presumably via a kahuna preview bus) will be a router source. The EVS / Edit folks can then do a loop recording to apply the effect.

Sound plausible? The kahuna is overspecced (allegedly) as it needs to be 5994P capable.

If it needs to be 1080 59.94p then it must be a current Kahuna model because the frames are 3 Gbps. The older Kahuna models only go up to 1080 30p because those frames are 1.5 Gbps.

If the system you will be working on has a 3D DVE then you could do the advanced Film Effect and just directly route the DVE wherever you need it. If you end up using a keyer Resizer then you'll use an M/E to do that. Although you can make an M/E with just a single keyer instead of tying up a full-blown M/E. You may need the EIC to help you with that.

Resizers (dual-tile capable) are available on all Superkeys (4 per M/E card). The eKeys (4 per M/E card) do not have Resizers.

Cheers,

Ken

The current models of Kahuna can do the Multi-Grab effect you describe with the Resizers that are on the keyers or with the 3D DVE. If I remember correctly, the original Kahuna model can do that effect only on the 3D DVE. The 3D DVE on all models has a great Film Effect menu that can add things like dirt, hair, frame jitter, color fading, etc. It may be an option on the original Kahuna.

Cheers,

Ken
